Cookie policy

Last updated: 8 May 2026

The short version: we don't use non-essential cookies, so you won't see a consent banner. If that ever changes, we'll add the banner first and update this page on the same day.

What we currently use

  • No analytics cookies. No Google Analytics, no Hotjar, no Mixpanel.
  • No advertising cookies. No Meta Pixel, no Google Ads, no LinkedIn Insight Tag.
  • No social tracking pixels.
  • No third-party CDN with cookies. Our hosting provider (Vercel) caches content via its own CDN; we configure it to not set any tracking cookies.

Strictly necessary state

A small amount of state may exist purely to keep the site working:

  • URL parameters — calculator inputs are encoded into the address bar (the ?s=… query string). This is a convenience for refresh and sharing; it isn't a cookie and isn't sent to a server beyond the standard request line.
  • HSTS / TLS state — your browser remembers we serve over HTTPS so it doesn't downgrade. Standard for any modern site.

Under Regulation 5(5) of the Irish ePrivacy Regulations, "strictly necessary" technologies are exempt from the consent requirement.

If we add something later

If the site ever needs cookies — e.g. a "save your scenario" feature that uses localStorage, or a login system — we will:

  1. Update this page and the privacy policy first
  2. Show a consent banner with equal-prominence Accept and Reject buttons
  3. Block any non-essential cookies until you've actively accepted
  4. Honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as an opt-out

Controlling cookies in your browser

You can clear or block all cookies on any site from your browser settings. The browser vendors keep clear instructions: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Edge.
